This year we are again honored to host international conference on the best practices and the latest trends in Food Science and Technology – UNIFOOD on September 24th and 25th, 2021. The topic of the conference, apart from being one of the most important segments of industry and trade, has also significantly contributed to the reputation and the ranking of the University of Belgrade in the global academic community. Namely, the University of Belgrade has been ranked amongst the top 500 universities in the world (2020), at possibly the most prestigious global ranking list published by the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) and carried out by the Shanghai Jiao Tong University, better known as the Shanghai List. More specifically, when it comes to the individual academic and scientific areas, it has been ranked 51th-75th in the world in the field of Food Science and Technology. Furthermore, the University of Belgrade has been highly ranked in another 11 scientific fields.
The University of Belgrade has been recognized as a leading international scientific institution by LERU when it was selected to be a member of CE7, an informal network of seven Central and Eastern European universities collaborating with LERU on key research and education challenges.
Furthermore, University of Belgrade joined European University Alliance Circle U. Following the European Commission’s launch of the European Universities initiative, a group of research intensive universities has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with the intention of establishing a new university alliance: Aarhus University, Humboldt University of Berlin, King's College London, UC Louvain, University of Belgrade, University of Oslo and Université de Paris.
The University of Belgrade provides about two thirds of Serbia’s scientific output. Serbian Law on Higher Education has recognized the UB as an institution of national importance, thus formalizing the role that the University has played since its foundation, as a leading institution promoting excellence in education, research and social engagement.
We hope that the second UNIFOOD Conference will again engage not only academics, but also the stakeholders from all the relevant industries and business sectors, serving as a meeting point and a platform for proliferation of new ideas and development of new partnerships.
The University of Belgrade consists of 31 faculties and 11 institutes, whose more than 100.000 students and 5000 teaching and research staff work in more than 350 study programs across numerous academic fields. Being one of the largest universities in the region, and top-ranked at global lists, the University of Belgrade has highly developed International Cooperation. With partners across the globe, more than 250 active bilateral agreements, more than 200 Erasmus+ agreements, and memberships in various international universities networks, it provides its students and partners with a comprehensive offer for international experience and cooperation.
During the two centuries of its existence the University of Belgrade has served its people, and its former students and teachers have greatly contributed to the development of cultural, scientific, educational, political and economic life of Serbia. Furthermore, we still proudly remember the students and professors of the University of Belgrade who left a significant mark in the Yugoslav struggle against fascism. After the Second World War the University saw rapid expansion and grew into one of the largest universities in the Balkans. Under its auspices, almost all state universities in Serbia were founded, as well as a number of universities in the region.
